One evening, as a group of friends sat around our dinner table making malas after a trip to the gem show, Indie and I looked at her beautiful mala that she had made, and she said she thought it would look really cute with an animal in it. And the seed was planted. At our next trip to the local craft store, we saw tubes of small toy animals, and Indie knew they would be great for the malas. So at our next mala making dinner, we made our first mala with an animal. Our good friend, Aja, exclaimed “look – it’s an Animala!”, and thus Animalas were born.
The idea of Animalas has since progressed from a fun addition to a traditional mala into a tool to help children meditate (and start a life long habit that has innumerable physical and mental health benefits), that through it’s purchase donates to animal and environmental charities around the world.
Please enjoy your Animala in good health, and know that you are not only helping yourself and others through meditation, but also the earth and the animals that inhabit it.
Here is one of our favorite mantras that you may enjoy using with your Animala.
Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu
Translation: “may all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all”
